I live in Smethwick and have been photographing Jazz Musicians for more than ten years. I began by photographing David Murray when he appeared at the Bear in Smethwick playing with local musician, Andy Hamilton. Inspired by the images I produced that night I went on to photograph Andy Hamilton and his guests on a regular basis. After a while I also began photographing artists who appeared at The Drum in Birmingham.
An exhibition of my photographs appeared in Frontiers Cafe at The Drum in early 2001.
Since 1997 I have been regularly photographing musicians at gigs promoted by Birmingham Jazz. In October 2002, with support from Birmingham Jazz, I held an exhibition at The Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham. I had a further exhibition there in October 2006. Some of my Black and White work was shown in Cheltenham Town Hall during the 2007 Cheltenham Jazz Festival. I also exhibited some of my images of Andy Hamilton and his guests in the Birmingham Symphony Hall in March 2008 to tie in with Andy's 90th Birthday Celebrations.
Over the last few years I have had work published in The Wire and Jazzwise magazines as well as in a number of local publications.
My work has appeared on a number of CD sleeves including ones by Julian Arguelles and Ken Vandermark.
I now have a book available featuring the best of my Black and White Images. See the page headed "Book" for details. A book of my colour images is in the pipeline.
